Friendswood Clerk Charged for Selling Fake Viagra
June 20th, 2009
A convenience store clerk in Friendswood has been charged with illegally selling a generic form of Viagra. Police said Ashish Shrestha, 22, sold the erectile dysfunction drug over the counter as if it were a bottle of aspirin or any other drug available without a prescription. Viagra and it’s generic brand Sildenafil Citrate are available in the United States only with a prescription and can be sold only by a licensed pharmacist.
Working on a tip, undercover police said they went to the Speedy Mart store in the 2400 block of West Parkwood Drive on Wednesday and purchased a box of sildenafil-citrate that is called Zeagra. Investigators said the drug likely was purchased from an overseas distributor in Cambodia or India, where a prescription is not needed, and shipped to the United States. Shrestha was charged with a felony count of delivery of a dangerous drug. He was being held on a $5,000 bond.
